Does anyone here have experience with Rotary Clubs?

hi all, After attending a pancake breakfast at Overlook Farm in Rutland, MA, a woman who happened to be president of a local Rotary Club asked for a Heifer speaker to talk with her folks.  Happily, I got to speak at a breakfast for her club last week.  It was a good experience and they were a great audience. Now, in addition to following up with this club to encourage their fledgling interest, I am thinking that it would be a good idea to write to other local clubs offering a presentation. If you…See More

You go girl! I'm hoping Heifer will pay for the annual fee, or incorporate a national site. We'll see. Noland

Ning No Longer "Free" After July

Just got a message from Ning.com and they are getting rid of their free service. This means we switch to one of their paid services or we terminate this open source platform. Personally, I think having this platform to share ideas and communicate is great. Heifer should pay for either the $3 monthly ($20 annual) service or upgrade to one of their premium services for the entire organization. Here's the attached document explaining the situation and the fees.…See More

The Highest "Pass on the Gift" Ceremony?

We witnessed possibly the highest “Passing on the Gift” ceremony, over 15,500 feet above sea level, in the hills of Pacchanta, Peru. Ten alpacas were given to ten families by ten Heifer International Project recipients. Each exchange has its own story to tell, but I’ll share my personal experience.

We arrived at Pacchanta after a 3+ hour bus ride. It was the most scenic route we’ve taken, but definitely not the easiest. The zigzag trail to the community was bumpy and rough. A few of us… Continue

Heifer International "Pass on the Gift" Exceeds Expectations in Peru

A couple days ago I mentioned the Acopia, Peru “Pass on the Gift” ceremony where 30 families gave 6 sheep each to 90 families. I misunderstood the translation (I don’t speak Spanish or understand it). Today, I got clarification on the Acomayo and Canas Heifer Project – and the news is better than I originally reported.

The 30 families, the original recipients from the Acomayo and Canas Heifer International Project, each gave six male sheep from their own stock to 180 families (which… Continue

Heifer International Study Tour Peru (Day 3): Passing on the Gift

Today we witnessed a “Passing on a Gift” ceremony in Acopia, Peru. It was an incredible honor to watch the township come together to share sheep that was once given to them by Heifer International.

When we arrived, we were greeted by the Mayor of Acopia at the entrance of the town square. The people of the village, dressed in their traditional festive outfits, lined both sides of the streets. They were very grateful and appreciative to see us – smiling from ear to ear and a sense of… Continue
